Experiential Learning consists of three components:
Development Immersion (DI), Enterprise Learning (EL) and Management Internship (MI). About 30% of the total programme duration will be devoted to Experiential Learning and practical application of knowledge & skills learned in the classroom segments.

Development Immersion (DI) is the first Experiential Learning Segment of the Post Graduate Programme in Development Management (PDM). It affords participants the opportunity to observe and experience the context of development; it also allows them to participate in the community‑engagement activities of the host organisation. This period is like no other — it is a once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in learning in the ‘field’ without the burden of performing any executive functions. When undertaken with diligence and seriousness of purpose, DI has the potential to provide participants with lived experiences that they can draw upon in myriad ways.
The Development Immersion segment spans five weeks. Participants spend nearly four weeks living in villages, observing village life, and exploring local institutions, livelihoods, social relationships, and development processes. Through observation, interaction, and reflection, they understand how social, economic, cultural, and political factors shape people’s lives and influence their responses to challenges and change. This is followed by a one‑week period at the Institute dedicated to preparing the Development Immersion report and theme paper. Faculty engagement is an integral part of the immersion — faculty members spend several days to a week in the field, providing close guidance to participants and engaging directly with communities. The segment is also supported by host organisations, which play a critical facilitative role throughout the field immersion.
